Prof. Tetsuhiko Ikegami, President of The University of Aizu, and the delegation visited to Tamkang University (TKU) on March 6, 2006, and in order to sign an academic exchange agreement with TKU. The University of Aizu thus became the 86th sister university of TKU and TKU's 17th sister university in Japan. The University of Aizu, located in Fukushima County, founded in 1993, is a public university. The University of Aizu is dedicated to computer science and engineering; the university equipped nearly 2000 workstations when the total student enrollment is about 1000. About forty percent of faculty members in charge of teaching specialized courses are from over ten different countries around the world. The Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering of TKU have begun academic exchange with The University of Aizu since 1998. The head of the Department visited The University of Aizu to serve the purpose of short-term faculty exchange and research. Dr. Chao-kang Feng, Vice President for Academic Affairs of TKU, also led a delegation to visit the The University of Aizu in 2005. Academic agreement signing ceremony was held in Ching-Sheng International Conference Hall. Based on the agreement, the two universities will enhance the interaction activities, such as joint academic conference, faculty and student exchange, and so on. Since both universities emphasize on the information-oriented education, this academic exchange agreement will focus on this area between the two universities. After signing the academic exchange agreement, the distinguished guest visited Chueh-sheng Memorial Library. They were all highly impressed by the facilities and the budget each year the library has. At noon, they attended the luncheon hosted by Dr. Flora C.I. Chang, President, at Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. They enjoyed very much the food and the conversation with our faculty and expected that the cooperation programs will be implemented in the near future.
