Professor J. Myron Atkin, Professor of Education (Emeritus) and former dean of education, Stanford University, made a goodwill visit to Tamkang University on March 5 to 7, 2007. Professor Atkin taught science in New York elementary and secondary schools. He joined the faculty of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in science education in 1955 and moved to the Stanford University faculty in 1979. At both universities, he also was Dean of Education: from 1970 to 1979 at Illinois and from 1979 to 1986 at Stanford. He has chaired the Education Section of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He also chaired the NAS/NRC Committee on Science Education K-12, the Committee on Classroom Assessment and the National Science Education Standards, and the Committee on Assessment in Support of Instruction and Learning, etc. His research and theoretical interests include improvement of the science curriculum in elementary and secondary schools. Professor Atkin and his wife visited Lanyang Campus of Tamkang University on Monday, March 5, and entertained by both the founder of University, Dr. Clement Chang, and the President of University, Dr. Flora Chang. On March 7, 2007, Professor Atkin is giving a lecture titled " Trends and Issues in Science Education", well received by the faculty and students of Tamkang University. He is also impressed deeply by the advancement and accomplishment that Tamkang has achieved in last 18 years.
