Dr. Michael Aiken, Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, arrived on May 21, 1999, to make a good-will visit to his sister university, Tamkang University. Coming along with Chancellor Dr. Aiken was Dr. George Yu, Director of U of I's Center of East Asia and Pacific Studies. Accompanied by Dr. Chao-kang Feng, Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Flora C.I. Chang, Vice President for Administrative Affairs; and Deans of eight colleges; both Chancellor Aiken and Dr. Yu attended a briefing presided over by President Horng-jinh Chnag and also engaged in a discussion with TKU faculty. Then they met with Dr. Clement C.P. Chang, Founder of Tamkang University and toured Tamkang University Tamsui campus, including the Chueh-sheng Memorial Library, the Information Processing Center, and the Maritime Museum. At noon, they attended the luncheon hosted by Dr. Clement Chang. It was Chancellor Michael Aiken's first visit to Taiwan. The University of Illnois at Urban-Champaign is one of the sixteen American universities currently having established academic cooperation with Tamkang University.
