Dr. & Mrs. Krueger, President of Winona State University, U.S.A.
Tamkang University is extremely delighted that Dr. Darell Krueger, President of Winona State University (WSU), U.S.A. , and Mrs. Nancy Krueger accept President Flora C. I. Chang’s cordial invitation to visit Tamkang University from February 21 to 24, 2005. WSU was established in 1858, with total student enrollment about 7200, including 300 international students from 56 counties. It is located at the beautiful upper riverside of Mississippi River. WSU has 5 colleges on Business, Education, Liberal Arts, Nursing & Health Sciences, and Science & Engineering. USA Today reported that WSU was the only state school that was listed in the Student Guide to America’s 100 Best Buys, for more than eight years in a row. TKU signed the academic agreement with WSU on Nov. 8, 1996. A close and continuing academic cooperation between the two institutions has been proceeding since then. WSU is also one of the sister universities that TKU sends the students for “Junior Study Abroad Program”—with 131 students in total from 1997 to 2005. On the first day of their visit, the distinguished guests met President Dr. C. I. Chang at her office before attending the briefing, presided over by President Chang, and also engaged in a discussion with TKU faculty and Deans of Colleges. After the discussion, they visited Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center and Chueh-sheng Memorial Library. At noon, Dr. and Mrs. Krueger attended the luncheon party hosted by President Dr. Flora C. I. Chang. Dr. and Mrs. Krueger will have a four-day visit in TKU. They will meet Dr. C. P. Chang, Founder of TKU, on Feb. 22 afternoon; and will give a speech on “Using Core Principles in Leading and Guiding the University” on February 23 morning. The deans, department chairs, and students are cordially invited to attend the speech. In his speech, Dr. Krueger impressed everyone with his seven principles in action and seven habits of highly effective people. Dr. Krueger emphasized the importance of the outcome and performances when assessment is implemented in higher education. He also discussed on the 8th habits that is, inspiring others to find their own voice. At the time of retirement, Dr. Krueger is trying to find his own voice too for the third part of his lifetime. This was our honorable guests first trip to Taiwan. They were excited about visiting Tamkang University and was quite impressed with the beauty of the campus and the facilities.
