A long-time but less familiar friend from New Zealand rekindled friendship with Tamkang. Dr. Roy Crawford, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Waikato, received a warm welcome on his visit to TKU Thursday morning, May 31, 2007. Despite an academic exchange agreement signed between Waikato and Tamkang in 1998, the two schools hadn’t embarked on much substantial exchange apart from occasional reciprocation of visiting scholars until this April, when Dr. Edward Weyne of the University of Waikato paid a visit to Tamkang and discussed with Dr. Ay-Hwa Andy Liou, Dean of the College of Entrepreneurial Development, about cooperation on distance education. A few weeks later, this latest visit by Dr. Crawford aimed mainly to intensely foster cooperation between the two schools and carry out exchanges of students as well as other substantial cooperative projects. Showing sincerity to the University of Waikato, a TKU’s sister university, Dr. Flora C. I. Chang, President of Tamkang University personally welcomed the distinguished guest Dr. Crawford, and presided at a briefing and a discussion. After talking with deans from various colleges at TKU, Dr. Crawford visited a number of TKU facilities including Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center, Martime Mueum and Chueh-sheng Memorial Library, and enjoyed a lunch banquet hosted by President Chang at the 10th floor of Chueh-sheng Memorial Library.
