Prof. Matthew Wortley, Assistant Director, International Office, University of Edinburgh, made a goodwill visit to Tamkang University (TKU) on November 6, 2006. The University of Ediburgh was established by a Royal Charter granted by James VI in 1582. It became the fourth Scottish university in a period when the much more populous and richer England had only two. With a total of over 23,000 students from more than 120 different countries, the university is both the largest university in Scotland, and one of the most multi-cultural. The university has 21 Schools in three Colleges: Humanities & Social Science, Medicine & Veterinary Medicine and Science & Engineering. In 2005, University of Edinburgh was named the Sunday Times Scottish University of the Year and were described by the paper as !§a model of broad and consistent excellence set in one of the world!|s most cosmopolitan and vibrant cities!‥.
