Dr. Saito Hiroshi, President of Nagasaki U niversity , Japan, visited Tamkang University and signed an academic exchange a greement between two universities on November 8, 2004.
President Saito Hiroshi, and Mrs. Saito Takiko, Nagasaki University Dr. Ide Yoshinori, D ean of Faculty of Environment al Studies Dr. Inove Yoshihiko , former D ean of Faculty of Environment al Studies Mr. Lien Chin-Gi, Associate P rofessor of Faculty of Environment al Studies Ms. Tagawa Tomoko , Staff of Nagasaki University Mr. Huang H u ei-Ching , Chief of Section of C ulture and E ducation , East-Asia R elationship A ssociation Dr. Saito Hiroshi, President of Nagasaki National University, and the delegation , made a goodwill visit to Tamkang University (TKU) for the 54 th anniversary celebration on November 8 , 2004 and sig n ed an a cademic e xchange agreement b etween T KU and Nagasaki University. Nagasaki University thus became the 78 th sister university of T KU and TKU’s 14 th sister university in Japan. Nagasaki University , founded in 1949, consists of eight colleges, eight graduate schools , a subsidiary organization of short-term medical technology university , with the enrollment of more than nine thousand students. It is considered as one of the most famous universities in Japan. According to the composite rating from various indexes in 2004, recently done by Japanese famous Diamond Weekly, Nagasaki University is ranked as 12 th among Japanese universities . Nagasaki University has been enjoying its international reputation for the researches in radioactive rays’ influence on organism and radioactive injury medical treatment, specific epidemic studies of world research center, studies of Nagasaki regional and geographic features, South-Asia economic studies, and Nagasaki Western Studies. Nagasaki University has been establish ing a good relationship with TKU in recent years. Professors from both institute s frequently meet and exchange the opinions at the international conference s . Especially, Dr. Lien Ching-Gi, an A ssociate P rofessor of Faculty of Environment al Studies in Nagasaki University, is an alumnus of Department of Chinese at TKU. Dr. Lien was invited as a visiting scholar at TKU last academic year. Besides, Dr. Inove Yoshihiko , former D ean of Faculty of Environment al Studies , was also invited to give a speech on “Environmental Culture Academic Conference , ” held by the C ollege of Liberal Arts of TKU this semester . After sig n ing the academic exchange agreement, two u niversit ies will start some substantial academic cooperation programs, and the student exchange would be the first to carry out.
