Prof. Dennis Dease, President, and Prof. Michael Sullivan, Chief Investment Officer, University of St. Thomas, made a goodwill visit to Tamkang University (TKU) on July 26, 2006. The University of St. Thomas, founded in 1885 by Archbishop John Ireland, is a Catholic, independent, liberal arts, archdiocesan university that emphasizes values-centered, career-oriented education. With 10,641 students (fall 2005), St. Thomas is Minnesota 's largest independent college or university. Most of the 5,584 undergraduates attend full time; most of the 5,057 graduate students attend part time. The majority of St. Thomas students are from the surrounding metropolitan areas; a record 2,376 students (including 92 percent of freshmen) live on campus. St. Thomas now has eight academic divisions. Since President Flora C.I. Chang, and Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Chao-kang Feng were both out of country, the reception and discussion were hosted by Dr. Po-yuan Kao, Vice President for Administrative Affairs. St. Thomas University and the College of Management of TKU have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Cooperation in 2001. Based on the MOU, the Department of the International Trade sent some English track students to St. Thomas University for 0ne-year study in 2005. In 2006, eight students will go to St. Thomas University for one-year study. With this active academic cooperation between two universities, St. Thomas University hoped to promote the level of relationship and sign the academic cooperation agreement at the university level. After the keen discussion, the guests visited Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center and Chueh-sheng Memorial Library. They also visited Lanyang Campus the next day, and they highly welcome students from Lanyang campus to spend their junior year at St. Thomas University.
