Prof. Bernard Coulie, President, Prof. Michel Francard, Prorector for Interatnional Relations and Dr. Thierry de Waha Baillonville, International Relations Officer (Africa and Asia), Université Catholique de Louvain, visited Tamkang University (TKU) on April 17, 2006. Founded in 1425, the Catholic University of Louvain is one of the oldest universities in Europe. It was split into two separate universities in 1971, one Dutch-speaking remaining in Leuven, one French-speaking, established in Louvain-la-Neuve and Brussels. UCL has over 20,000 for total student enrollment. For international cooperation, several options exist for students who wish to do part of their study program at one of their sister universities: First of all, in Europe in the frame work of the Erasmus program, but also in North America and Asia, in the framework of a number of agreements negotiated by UCL. Thus, every year, about 600 students exchanges are organized. Catholic University of Louvain and Tamkang University signed an academic agreement in November 2000. Both universities started to send the exchange students on the reciprocal basis the following year. The distinguished guests first attended a presentation and a discussion hosted by President Dr. Flora C.I. Chang. During the discussion, both parties agreed to enhance the cooperation, especially on the exchange of students. After the discussion, they visited Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center and Chueh-sheng Memorial Library. At night, they attended the dinner hosted by Dr. Flora Chang, President, at Hotel Regalees This was our honorable guests' first trip to Tamkang University. They were excited about their visit, and were quite impressed with the beauty of the campus and facilities.
